Saving
Is there a way to save manually? Or are we reliant on the auto-save functionality in the game?

Checkpoint save system. It sucks and I don't know why they did it like that, but that's what we get.
Racter 26/jul./2013 às 20:41
alright.. guess i'll have to deal with it, not that its too terrifying to cope with... Out of curiosity, what would you think the best archetype is for someone to start out in whose never played it?
Wolfgang421 26/jul./2013 às 20:42
Eh, archetypes are just pre-distributed karma. The game is truly classless, though the Street Samurai archetype is pretty to the point: Shoot and stab.

the game autosaves after every load screen so if you want so save, just go inside a building or do something else to trigger a load screen. ta-da, manual save.

The game does not autosave after every load. There is a place where I had to go through two different matrix runs with loads and afterwards went through a bunch of dialog and bought new gear only to realize, I needed to hire runners for the next mission. There was no way to make money, so I had to restart from the last save, which was before the first matrix run, which included a bunch of dialog. So basically had to play the same half hour - 40 minutes all over again. The game itself is awsome, but the decision to go with autosave is horrible.

If i was to go with Classless, would i determine where every point is allocated to? Or would I still only have 5 points up.

You are correct! im on the same map 3 times after being on it an hour each time... very anoying. But i guess if i was never distracted and could plant myself like a potatoe in front of my screen for 12 hours at a time, it may not be so noticable ^^

Matrix runs aren't separate loaded maps, though. It's a full load screen that triggers the autosave. Matrix areas are part of the same scene as the corresponding meatspace area, just kept a fair distance away so you don't notice them. It's a little like the news reporter on the TVs in Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. If you noclipped out of the levels, you'd find him, his desk and the background of the news set floating out in the ether beyond the level. Matrix runs, as well as the Union's basement, are handled the same way.

Indeed. Checkpoint save system in a RPG is a monster fail. I was very much looking forward to this game. And then I read about the checkpoint save system... Let's just say that I'm glad I didn't pre-order this game.

It really takes me back to my Fallout 1 days. I really like this game, but I need a save system, you know? I have stuff to do IRL and being able to save my game and get up whenever I want is important to me. I wish I knew what their reasoning was behind pidgeon-holing all user created campaigns into a checkpoint save system.

Yepp. I have no desire to replay a whole area of the game just because I had to shut down the game for whatever reason and wasn't able to save.

I'll wait and see. If they change the save system to let you save when and where you wish then I'll buy it. But not before that.

A friend got it for me, having known of my love for isometric style RPGs. But I had a save system in Fallout 1 and 2.

For those making UGC. Look up making commlink tutorial. Had this idea, since it saves on load screens, why not use the commlink system code to a degree. Click on self, call <some doc or something>. Upon calling you get, maybe 5 different dialogue options. Each one queues up a different load screen and thus a different save game slot. Will take a bit of fiddling to get it to work right though.

A lot of young gamers out there. Modern games have made us soft. Remember when they didn't have saves at all? It lends more to a sense of self preservation. If you can just reload last save from 5 secs ago you can go charge in guns blazing...oh well. You have to go back 20mins? Hrm I better think this through, I might die. It also reminds me more of PnP RPG. If you die in a PnP your character is generally dead dead unless you have a kindly old GM.

Yeah, but what if I have stuff to do IRL and I don't want to replay ten minutes of dialogue and eight fights to get back to where I was? I'm pretty screwed at that point. What about a year in the future and people have created huge, sprawling campaigns and I've been on a map for an hour doing side quests with no save in sight? Do I just forfeit all that work because real life calls?

Play a late 80s or early 90s game. Yeah, used to. Get to world 7 of Mario... oh dinner. Crap. But if saves you want, muck around with code. Yes, would have been nice if they added in a exit save at least. Shouldn't be too hard to add in future content with some work.
