I don't know enough about the save functionality to say one way or another. As long as it saves where I am and not at the last checkpoint when I quit the game, I'm not really bothered.

Guess I'm just an old hard-core pen & paper gamer from way back... back when we didn't have save-games at all. If you died in-game, that was it, there was no "wait, let me go back and do that again".
