Shadowrun Returns

Shadowrun Returns

Good without the name?
I would like to see what people would rate this game if it were not using the Shadowrun licenses. Would you rate this as a 5/5 game if it were of a different franchise, or even a brand new franchise?

The assumption is:

1. Every component of the game is still in tact, and as-is. Matrix can be any alternate world. If you want a moon, it is the moon, if you want it to be Astral Plane, so mote it be.

2. The game comes with ONE "campaign", the exact length of Dead Man's Switch. Also assumed, is the preservation of writing quality.

3. It is also assumed the game comes with the same editor with the same capabilities.

The only thing different, is not being a pre-existing franchise. For some of us, we might rate the game worse because we forgive its flaws due to the name. For some of us, we might rate it higher because without such a name to live up to, expectations can be lowered.

How would you rate this game if it were not a member of the "Shadowrun" franchise or any other currently existing franchise?

Instead of constantly making empty negative complaints, send constructive suggestions to the devs as they're pretty reasonable people. Unless for some reason it's easier to put others down than to help create something better. Up to you; but based on the behavior of haters thier "motivations" are becoming clearly unproductive.

Trolls = waste of valuable time of both said trolls and thier target audience.

Still waiting for that "comet". Come up with something better than SRR and sell it to us. That would actually be something worth posting on Steam.

1. You defined yourself well as a troll, now stop it.

2. I only have the same complaints I always have had: Mostly about lack of content, no bang for the buck, too linear, broken functions (like hired deckers not activating spots). Things like that.

3. The purpose of this thread is to ask how people would rate this game if it did not have the Shadowrun name (or any existing franchise), to see how people would measure it without the biases or expectations associated with a big name.

I find the question hard to answer, personally. I wouldn't think very highly of it. Then again, I wouldn't have high expectations for things like cyberware, shamans, the matrix, metaplanes and everything else. I could see myself rating it lower OR higher.

If you are interested in answering the question of the thread, you are welcome to! Otherwise, you are just a troll showing anger and arrogance toward those who you don't agree with.

Really, cut-paste? You are the one who has put me down, and I have sent many constructive suggestions. I am not a hater, but you seem to enjoy using "Snarl Words" to label people as "others" who you don't agree with so that you can address them only by attacking the label.

You are incapable of having a normal conversation, and you are polluting my thread. If you have no honest answer to the question of the topic, BUTT OUT.

Ideas are ripped off of games like xcom yet they're not even executed half as well, the artstyle isn't even that great, and the developers took the easy way out by creating an editor then telling the customers "can you make this game fun for us, cause we're too lazy to do it ourself"

I would rate this game 1/10 without the editor. It gets a slightly below average rating though only because other players made it somewhat ok.

People need to stop being in denial, almost every other turn based game is more complex, balanced and well thought out than this game. The fact that the game went how long without the ability to save says how LAZY these developers were.

This game has been 450% funded and made with a larger team, and yet there are turn based games that don't use kickstarter or early access, and are only made by a few people yet STILL did more things right than this game. They at least had a save feature and took the time to give people a fully fleshed out campaign.

This game was rushed, too many KS games that people try to make within a year it's pretty sad.

I would give the developers the benefit of the doubt if this game had no funding and was made by 2 people during their free time.

Divinity succeeded at doing everything that shadowrun half-assed attempted to do.
Divinity despite being in such an early state, accomplished a lot more.

This game has been profitable to the developers, but hardly anyone even plays this game compared to almost every other turn based game on steam.

Deal, If that comes with a grity, morally desperate, cyberpunk drama! I'll buy trice if you've got good writing and art atmosphere! Come on bro, trust me this genre has a cult following. Keep up the quality stories and I'll keep on buying.

Still waiting for that. Come up with something better than SRR and sell it to us. That would actually be something worth posting on Steam.

You clearly don't know what trolling is, and it's sad that you copy & paste your messages, it shows you're not worth talking to. "Come up with something better than SRR"

Sorry pal but the vast majority of games ARE better, Civilization V has 135 times more players on average.
This is one of the least popular turn based games available on steam, they suckered a lot of people in on launch then it died down.

Come on bro! Come up with a game similar to Shadowruns but better than SRR and sell it to us. That would actually be something worth posting on Steam. We would like that. We would buy that.

He wants this thread closed because he is a hater who despises people who don't like the things he likes. Thus he uses copy-paste and red herring questions. He already defined himself as a troll multiple times. He doesn't even care to try to answer the question of the thread, which demonstrates the nature of his agenda.

Let the haters hate.

Sometimes the best questions to ask are the hardest ones. I personally struggle with "the perfect answer" so I am interested in the responses of everyone else, positive and negative. Surely a great game in a great franchise, will still be a great game without the franchise name, right? Final Fantasy 7 would have been a great game even if it wasn't related to Final Fantasy and the SNES Shadowrun would have been just as great even if it was Mario or Pac-Man RPG instead of Shadowrun.

If it weren't a "Shadowrun" game, I'd have enjoyed it more for the reasons stated by OP - after the Vista tragedy and remembering the fun times I had with the novels and the Genesis/SNES games, I had high hopes for this as we're in that nostalgic age of indie gaming, full of "true fans" reviving IPs. It's a good game, yes, but it's not as good as it seemed it would be from the previews. Aside from the annoying autosave, there was the obvious linearity of how the game would play out, deckers being useless, and having to clear out that temp folder that kept hoarding autosaves you couldn't load up. Don't mean to be a le~ hater and sip from the hatorade and be trolling and etc, etc. Just staing facts. It was good-not-great but without the IP behind it, it would've been easier for people to forgive based on "you know, at least we got more cyberpunk video games to play, I was getting bored of being the only dude who plays E.Y.E."

All the developers had to do was not rush this game, and give their self a proper schedule, kickstarter has caused too many developers to try to make games in the shortest amount of time possible. I would say around half the games on kickstarters are made in less or around 12 months.

Divinity almost made the same mistake, and mighty 9 might make this mistake also.
Would you rather get your shadowrun game within a year, or 2 years?

game development is being treated like a speedrun because the developers don't truly care about the quality.

You described the features of C. Wright Mill's "McDonaldization", and frankly, I agree.

If the game upon release were released in the form it is in now with most of the bugs fixed, typos corrected, and everything, how would you rate it?

In this instance, I would give it 3.5/5 with the feeling that the game wasn't broken but still lacking in general.

If this entire time, the game were released as a BETA and "Final Release" would be "Dragonfall" as release 1 (A game featuring 2 campaigns), how would you rate it?

In this instance I would give it 4/5 with a point deduction for being linear.

Yea 4/5 in that case. This game does have potential after all. But we shouldn't be high fiving developers for rushing games. You do know that this game could've been something more than it's going to be with dragonfall IF they didn't plan a release date, and just kept on developing till they understood it felt finished. If the game stayed in development for an extra year, it could've went in a different direction at a lot of points in the game, and it could've turned out for the better.

The character creation could've ended up with 100's of customizations, and a single campaign could've had the most ridiculous playability for a turn based game. But that's only in the scenario they didn't write the game off as "finished"

The best question to ask would be how good would this game be if it took an extra year before they even attempted a beta.

If I play a custom level on shadowrun I don't think "oh man shadowrun is so freaking amazing" I think "the person who made this level is amazing"

1 extra year is extremely underrated, you can make a game that's 2/10, into something that's 9/10 depending on how much potential it has.
