I'll assume you're referring to crash on startup. After doing some digging around, I was able to resolve the issue:

If you are using dual monitors, both monitors must be set to the same refresh rate. Additionally, the game resolution must match the resolution of the primary monitor. If either of these is false, you may get the crash.

Unfortunately, you may need to temporarily disable the second monitor in order to get into game to adjust the game resolution, but it's a minor inconvenience.

You have 19 hours left to purchase the Gold edition of this game for $2.81 on green man gaming [steam version] @ 75% off with an additional 25% off with coupon code GMG25-0YUM5-VKMVU If purchased at green man gaming you will also receive $0.10 credit for future purchases.
Available drm free i.e. on dvd rom at Amazon.com for $6.99 with free shipping when total order is at least $35.00; this version i.e. the dvd version states that it is windows 7 compatible. The version on steam says: OS: Windows® XP & Vista.
. This is for the complete Rome Gold version which has 4X Epic Retail-Time Strategy that includes the complete, fully updated 'GRAND AGES ROME' and the 'REIGN OF AUGUSTUS' Expansion Pack....The reason I mention this on this thread- is that the dvd version lists windows 7 compatible- while the steam version does not.
