Library not working

Although i got many prisoners who passed the Foundation Education Programm (more than 50) absolutely no one is working in my library.

And yes i assigned Jobs in the Logistics tab.

And yes the security Level is shared, so everyone could enter.... but no one does!

I've already thought that to... but how high is the probability that all of those 50 are always occupied in a workshop or one of the kitchens?

So do potential Library worker HAVE to pass the Foundation Education program before they can work there? I don't have anyone who is even qualified to work there.

Yep, Foundation Education program.

And for me it works well ... do you (@OP) have a librarian table?
You´ll need it ... books get delivered unsorted, then get sorted at the librarian table (by the prisoners working there) and put into the bookshelves.
(for the same reason it is good to have multiple librarian tables, as it allows for multiple prisoners sorting books at the same time)

Also I suspect this is like other voluntary stuff where if the suppression is too high then prisoners won't participate. Anyway, I have workers now but only 2 even though I have 3 librarian tables. Is the size of the room what determines the number of staff?

Aye ... as with other workplaces the size of the room determines the maximum number of prisoners you can assign to the library.
Dunno the formula, but I suspect that it is the same as for Laundry and Cleaning cupboard:
Size of the Room (in m²) / 4 = Max number of workers that can be assigned

if the room is incorrect he will see the red marker, maybe just try to dezone and rezone the room and set it up again in logistics to open works there.

Nope... librarian tables are in there and everything else that needs to be fullfilled....I also assigned workers.

Somehow it now works without me changing anything! O.o :)

I'm having this issue with a new prison, so I'm getting prisoners in with a high literacy need but no need of them getting any books. Seems like a bit of a catch 22 needing to wait for the foundation guys to pass, when half of them won't because they're so upset they're not able to read! As far as I can tell the bookshelves are purely decorative Are there any early game workarounds to suffice literacy while awaiting foundation course completion?

I was having this issue myself - in my case, library jobs would not appear until library was enclosed with doors and walls.

Yep, I wondered why the Library wouldn't function for me (doesn't show up in Prison Labor) in my Open-Concept prison where I had a large room that was designated with Chapel, Classroom, Common Room and Library open to the prison without it being enclosed by doors.

With that said from a test that I've done, unlike the Holding Cell or Cells, the entire room does not apparently need to be designated as Library for it to count. I was apparently able to remove part of the room designation and have it still work.

Also (sorry for bumping what seems to be an old topic) check that the prisoners can acess the room, like minimum security prisoners cannot pass through a Medium Security area en route to a Shared room.

Discovered this problem in 2018 and found the solution is to add more sorting desks in the library. One is not enough when the books start piling up. The books cleared off the floor and were finally sorted.
