Oh get over it. It's a game, and you don't have to use them.
See how easy that was to solve.
:D pun intented.
The point is all jails and prisons have strict rules about bringing firearms into population. Thats the point.
This game defies logic in this regard because some dev thought it would be cool. The response is "Dont use them". That's not the point or an excuse. Its akin to seeing the guards get jetpacks because the dev has a hairbrained idea...and someone says "Jet packs what?" to which countless fanboys say "I like jet packs. If you dont, dont use them".
Instead of the devs putting in time and effort on something closer to realism (say informants or gangs - some type of cat and mouse game within a game), we get armed guards carrying shotguns and pistols walking alone through population. Its arcadey. Its pedestrian. Its ill conceived. Its unrealistic. Its lazy.
Running a prison is a daunting task with numerous levels of complexity. Gangs to ID and disrupt, corrupt or abusive guards to find out about, hits on other inmates to discover and thwart, black markets, "keep separates", on and on and on. What we get here is a month of some hair-brained idea that does not exist.
I wont use this. But the devs cycles put into it boggle the mind especially since there are some really aweseome ideas put forth by many in countless previous posts that would bring more depth to the game beyong just building walls and setting meal times.
Realism/Game

This is your real world equivalent to what the Armed guards are and do. No, having them walk around the common areas wouldn't be a realistic use of them. However that doesn't mean they don't have a place in a game like this. Personally I was kind of hoping they would have a bean bag option, as those can be a very effective way of subduing targets without resorting to lethal force. I believe if there is any legitimate concern with the addition of armed guards, it is that they
1. Do not cause prisoners to organize to effectively take them down
2. they do not have any non lethal weaponry, aside from their fists,
although I'm hoping these points will be addressed in the next update.
Have a great day. and Incarcerate safely!
