Cities XL Platinum freezes at main menu - Windows 8 x64

When I start the game (via Steam) the menu loads but I can't click any buttons. It just freezes. Below is my log. I have to chuckle at the first line, "This shouldn't happen in release...". Any ideas on what I can try? Thanks!

Fixed it (so far!) Go here and follow the instructions. I did all of it except the last step of resetting settings since I couldn't go in to set anything different from the defaults anyway. I also edited the CitiesXL_2012 and CitiesXL_Platinum exes to run as administrator. Good luck!
