I'm a huge quake 1 fan, and have owned the non-steam version for some time now. I'm just looking for someone to have some great MP fun with.

I would like to play but I am at a loss as to how to connect with other players. Couldn't find any servers, started a coop but no one joined.

Yah, it can be hard to find quake games nowadays. Also, the steam version has some problems working online. But with a little knowhow, it's a breez. Anyway, can't wait to play sometime.:)

Please, give me a hand, man. Do I have to connect to quakeworld? Because I can't seem to do that(Do I have to join Quakeworld THEN connect to quakeworld?) Is Quakeworld not neccessary? Does GLquake even work online? or did just nobody sign in? If you have any advice that would be sweet.

well, the steam version of quake has some issues. One of the big ones is not being able to play online sometimes, or at all. First off, you need the quake one steam comunity untimate patch. That will enhabce the graphics, and give proper mouse support, as well as add and populate a vast multiplayer list built into the updated winquake. The servers on that list work fine, but sadly, even with this update, with the steam version of quake, when you manualy put in an IP, EX:quake."A Host's IP".net, it won't work, and the console will just say "connection accepted. For manual IP input, you will want to manualy set up a quake engine using DarkPlaces outside of steam. It's a little bit of work, but worth it. If you want help setting up DarkPlaces, tell me.:)

How would I get the steam community ultimate patch? Do I have to pay? Because there is no way I am paying again.

No you don't have to pay againg. Just download follow the instructions, and install this.

Don't verify or regen the game cash or file integrtady, cause it'll uninstall the patch.

You don't need a "Ultimate patch". All you need is a server browser, like QTracker, Gamespy, Pingtool, etc. Some engines also query a master server too, such as Darkplaces and FTEQW.
