(English only for me I'm afraid; I hope you can read or translate this.)

If you know the address of the server that you want to connect to, and the client just won't connect, then it's hard to say what the problem is. A few things come to mind -- these are the basic things, so apologies if you already know this.

1) It may be a firewall issue. If the server is a public server that other people are playing on, then the problem is not at the server... I suppose it's possible that you could have a local firewall that is preventing your client from connecting outward.

2) There are two different Quake multiplayer protocols: the original style (or "NetQuake"), and the newer QuakeWorld style. If the server is a NetQuake server, then to properly connect to it you need to use the original Quake, or GLQuake, or some other client that supports NetQuake. If the server is a QuakeWorld server, then you need to use QuakeWorld, or GLQuakeWorld, or some other client that supports QuakeWorld. If you use the wrong type of client for a particular server, it won't connect.

3) If you're trying to connect by manually entering a console command, then maybe you forgot to specify the port number? A server address is made up of both an IP address and a port number. If the server uses the default port number, then you don't have to specify the port, but if it is using some other port number then you do have to specify it. For example if there was a server running at IP address 173.11.80.97 on port 27504, then you would need to enter "connect 173.11.80.97:27504".

That's all I can think of there. If you're trying to connect and getting some error message then yeah, a screenshot might help, or just describing the error message in detail.

Well actually, one more thing. I guess the problem could just be that the server you're trying to connect to doesn't exist! If you're using some old server list then that could definitely be the case. So let me type a few things about finding servers.

First, if you're not using a modern Quake engine, you probably should be. More info here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=118401000

Any of the modern Quake engines that support QuakeWorld multiplayer also have a built-in server browser. There always seem to be a few populated public servers at any given time.

If you're really serious about QuakeWorld multiplayer then I think that the usual thing is to hang out on IRC to organize pickup games. Quakeworld.nu has some information about that: http://www.quakeworld.nu/guide/getstarted

If you don't like QuakeWorld and you prefer "NetQuake" instead, then you can see some of those servers at http://quakeone.com/servers/ The NetQuake guys may also hang out on IRC, but I don't know where.

Скачивай квэйк от сюда: http://nquake.com/
Сервера здесь: http://www.quakeservers.net/quakeworld/servers/pl=1/
Обычно весь треш и угар происходит на ффа серваке quake.xs4all.nl:27500
