does it work for windows 7
I dont have windows xp or vista I have 7.

Yes, Quake is fine on Windows 7.

If you do run into any issues though, you should try using a "modern" Quake engine to replace the executables that you get from Steam.

The new Guides feature looks like it could be a useful replacement for sticky threads, so I saved some notes about Quake engines here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=118401000

There's a few different engines to pick from depending on what you want.
