I'd recommend you install a modern source port, GLQuake is a poor Windows 95 version. With EZQuake, nQuake, Tenebrae etc., you can easily use HD (and above) and widescreen resolutions in the game.

Several modern source ports allow changing the resolution from within the game. Old GLQuake, however, requires you to add -width 1280 -height 1024 -bpp 32 to the commandline or Steam launch options.

Not the console. Open the game properties in the Steam library and add those commands to the launch options.
Installed the patch. Crashes :] Also tried Ezquake and while it runs, no music :[

Since the original game used CD audio (which isn't included with the Steam version), you have to find and download rips of that separately. I think Ezquake should handle both MP3 and OGG, and you should only have to put it in the base\music subfolder (and make sure the track numbers are clearly labeled in the file name so EZQuake will play them in the right order).
The tracks already exist in the id1/sound/cdtracks folder. They do not play in the game. Are you saying I need to move the tracks to a sub folder in Ezquake?

The exact folder structure you should use varies between source ports. Turns out I had mainly been using nQuake, and all the guides for ezQuake I can find are 10 years old and back then it seems it wasn't possible for it to play the tracks in order, just to send control messages to external mp3 players like Winamp. But that was ten years ago, one would hope they've implemented that by now.
nQuake seems to use the id1/sound/music folder rather than cdtracks.
The old Steam forums have some guides on how to set up ezQuake to send track changes to your mp3 player of choice: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-584085.html
