How do i Activate a mod?

I just downloaded a mod for Quake 1 but nothing seems to work. Any advice?

To make everything easy :

1) Add the mod to the root of your Quake 1 folder.
2) Right click on the game, properties, and add commandline parameters.
3) Write this:

 -game <folder of your mod>

Example:

 -game ad

4) Start the game. it should work.

And if you open Steam's properties for Quake, you'll see a "Launch Options". You can put the -game stuff in there if you want to, instead of modifying the game's properties in Windows.

Just remember that if you do put some things in the Launch Options, they will be applied every time you run Quake through Steam (until you remove them). If you want to easily switch back and forth between different mods you'll probably want to take some other approach.

i have the retail version THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE STEAM
