Is it worth playing for somebody who's never played the original?

Never played the original. Thought I might give Enhanced a try. Liked Dragon Age Origins, which I hear is pretty similar. So, is it worth playing?

Yes. Its more complicated than Dragon Age Origins but its definitely worth a try.

Actually, going back to the original in all it's low res goodness and it's terribly antiquated setup is definitely going to spoil it for him.

This version is great if you're just stepping into it, it gives you support for all modern system without too much of a hassle. Just go for it, if you like Dragon Age, Baldur's gate is just a perfect match.

Do bear in mind though, that the game is relatively old by design, and only fully reaches it's full potential with Baldur's gate 2. That game actually surpasses Dragon Age.

Gave it a shot just now. If you've never played BG before and you like the genre, definitely go for it. Really good way to dive into this kind of RPG.
But when you're sure that you can handle the old graphics and all, get the full Box set from GoG or somewhere else. You'll get more for your money. Especially if you know how to mod the games.
