BG Will not start

I just purchased this game today (Never played the original or it's sequel) and it will not start. I click on the play button and it does nothing, some when I press it, it says (as usual when you start a game) preparing to launch and then that screen closes and nothing happens.

Same problem.. I installed the game yesterday. But when I click on Play, nothing happening..

Had the same problem. Maybe try adding BG to the DEP exception list, worked for me.
How to (for Sims 3, but works the same way for BG):

I've had the same problem for about 3 months. Tried all kinds of fixes. Was hoping someone could do something. Kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ I spent money on this thing and can't even play it.

Agreed. If there isn't some sort of fix within a month I'm going to Steam support to ask for a refund.

I've had the same issue with other games, and found out that they needed a more recent OS such as Vista or Seven.

For Baldur's Gate however, only Win 98 is supported :D

Hey guys, I had the same problem and found a solution. I clicked on the BGEE executable through the Steam folder and got an error about a missing .dll file. I used this link to download an exe, ran it, and it runs just fine now. I can even launch it through Steam. Hope this works for you guys, here's the link.

I bought it a while ago, and it worked fine. But i recently wanted to play again with some friends but the game wouldnt start up for me neither.

Caused by DEP for me but I wasn't able to get it to work via exceptions I had to disable it entirely. I probably won't be playing much of this game unless they patch it to work with DEP.
