Can I get to Baldur's Gate city before I drown the mines?
i mean can I get to it anytime? B coz they got good sellers there...

The answer is "no".

You could have found it out yourself. The bridge is closed. You can explore some areas to the north very early, also for some quests, XP and loot. But take a look at the bridge. You can't pass it.

It might be possible with cheats though. Try looking up the coordinates for Baldurs Gate and just teleport your group there, although you might want to save before that in case of bugs & broken quests.

You could in the original with dimension door, but that was taken out I think.

Well he answered your question. And don't be offended by his statement. He is basically right. You could have found out yourself.

Take a look at the bridge. It can't be more explicit. Btw, this game is about exploration. No reason not to travel north a bit when the party has advanced far enough to reach Cloakwood Mines.
