(but seriously, the moderators might lock up your thread, maybe you should consider posting on /v/ or something)
Also like music said, careful with your threads. You did that one copypasta one, and we don't really appreciate it.
another thing to consider, those hours don't accurately reflect playtime since it doesn't include playtime on source ports. (without tweaking first) and 95% of people use source ports.
Story and graphics really dumb down gameplay. I rather have great gameplay over a story at least. Dark Souls has great gameplay and a great story that doesn't try to focus on the story itself.
Mate... i have 0h on steam Doom, i bought it just for the simplicity of downloading the WAD anywhere from steam, i think by now EVERYONE has their favorite sourceport.
Also, i disagree with your second post, to me story is either hit or miss, either your game is story focused or gameplay focused, of course there are rare exceptions.
My favorite game of all time is Baldur's Gate (the trilogy), that game has simply has the best storyline i have ever had the pleasure of playing through. Doom & Build Engine games "families" have one of the best gameplay i did ever played and they eacg have their respective merits
I do agree with you on graphics though, visual quality is something that is sadly superficial and utterly forgetable, yet it is highly bragged/hyped about thesedays.
Maybe its just me, but i am not someone who stops to admire how high rez a certain texture is.
Sound and voice acting is also something that can be good or bad for a game, but its usually overlooked by anyone reviewing a game.
Interesting gameplay & story takes real creative skill to make it good. Graphical quality doesnt (unless your game is making a new groundbreaking graphical style).
Your using a TV monitor? if so, that would be the problem. If your using a widescreen monitor, it should come with a 4:3 aspect ratio changer (at least Samsung ones do) and you should change to 4:3 before playing Doom.
Remember that TV monitors have those silly resolutions that most games dont even support.
yh dont think win 8 allows you to play steam with dosbox thats why i use gzdoom
