No STEAM is an online digital distribution client, it is not that narrow minded as a company not to branch into software applications for windows when it already sells games tahat work on the same OS.
Would you tell the local bakery owner off for selling pies and say he or she should only sell bread?
This is not a good comparison! although if my baker started selling stationary i would not tell them to stop but i would just simply shop at a bakery that caters for baked goods
No-one is forcing you to buy your software through the store, but enough people want to buy their software here that Steam is allowing it. If you are really concerned about it, I'd contact Steam support and let them know how you feel.
Well this is the first non-game related software i have seen on steam and am concerned that the flood gates are going to open and soon i will find myself scrolling though loads of crap i don’t care about, if Steam are going to go down this route i hope they hide them away on a separate tab that i never have to see if i don’t wish to.
I wanted to voice my opinion here where other users in the community can see it and have an opinion but as you are very biased on the subject i don’t feel you opinion counts on where I should post this.
A lot of these comment supporting the software seem somewhat fake, I know you will defend this (RodeoClown) as i would i if i was trying to sell my software but this is just my perception, your software might be great im not attacking it but I just don’t think it belongs here I wish you the best of luck.
As for the fake comments, I really can tell you we haven't organised anything like that.
If you check out our website, we've got a whole page full of emails from our users who love this software (and I loved it before I started working here - this is pretty much my dream job!).
Thanks for taking the time to respond intelligently though troublesun, even though we may disagree, you at least put forth your case politely, and I think we can agree to disagree on whether software should be included :)
as with any of those other bits of software that have always been there, you can choose to ignore this one, OP. If the fact that non-game software is listed here, and that makes you sooooo angry that you need to stop using steam, i feel sorry for you, but i bet the only person that would be affteced by your decision to leave would be you. why not carry on as you have been, loading or ignoring the many many different things that are posted on steam daily?
I know it´s easy to use and blah blah but Steam is a really ♥♥♥♥♥ platform to be honest...
you can not access your software when you have no Internet connection or games...
Steam should be only for games because well ... Its just like that .. DRM free would be much more awesome but oh well is all we can say..
but IDK why would anyone lock theyr software into this place ...
Steam is really unsecure they block / disable / restrict accounts which is really lame...
you dont even have to scam anyone to get your acc restricted....
But oh well people decide what they do ...
Steam is gone nuts!.. GREEEEEEEDYYY
You should go to this forum:
http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/10/
and post a suggestion to Steam that they implement a filter, similar to the DLC filter currenlty on the main store page under the new items section, that will ONLY show games. If they had that in place, you could tick the box and be happily oblivious to the rest of the software Steam is selling and those who are interested will have an unfettered view.
or SPC ... Buy the latest PC right now !!!! WITH STEAM LOGO!!!
At least based on what the developer posted here, developers can choose to have their software locked to Steam or not. Apparently, if you buy through Steam, this software for example will run without steam and they provide a Key to redownload from the company directly. I can't confirm, because I already own YNAB pre-Steam and don't feel like buying a second unneeded copy. But, it seems pretty nice for right now to buy on Steam considering the Steam price is cheaper at this moment (at least in the U.S.). But I am not sure if all software does that kind of thing ?
