Why is it not listed that you have to be online for this to work? - FIXED
Or is it listed somewhere and I just overlooked it?

I didnt know you had to be online for it to work, granted i'm never offline but still. it doesnt seem like a game you would need to be online for, if anything its probably hack prevention, it wouldnt be hard to modify your files to give all enemies 1 health or give yourself infinite health and stamina, you could make your new games start at max level with all skills or anything. ( i will not be showing anyone how nor will i be doing it myself so do not pm and ask me.) the game has achievments so online would be to prevent that. make the game fair for all.

I'd be exceedingly surprised to learn that the game runs on a server. The possibility is so remote I hadn't even thought about it. Most games run on the player's machine, even if they include achievements.

Some games do require you to be online as a form of DRM, just to make sure you're not using a pirated copy. I don't know if this is the case here. If it is, yeah, it would indeed mean you can't play offline. I suppose it'd be an issue if you lose access to your internet connection for a while.

It's annoying because I take my laptop to work with me sometimes and dont have wifi there, thus I'm unable to play this game. Wonder if I can get a refund?

Can't help you there, I don't know if a "must be online" requirement legally has to be stated by the seller. If it doesn't, it really oughta be. It's true that most people are always online nowadays, but obviously there's still many, many others who aren't.

Could be worth a few clever internet searches. You can't be the first person to run into this issue.

What happens when you try and start the game in Steam's offline mode?
Duomtl 23. apr. 2013 kl. 12:59
It doesn't run on a server, but the offline mode is bugged at the moment.
kmanitou81 23. apr. 2013 kl. 18:25
I think it's just a bug. Steam offline in general has been buggy for a month too. I also remember playing the beta offline. Just be patient, I don't think it's by design.

I agree a small connection drop and the game think it don't detect steam, so buggy.
Duomtl 25. apr. 2013 kl. 22:38
If you have a connection drop during gameplay, nothing will happen, the game will continue.

Duomtl 25. apr. 2013 kl. 23:09

Even after, if i alt-tab it's put this often. Damm annoying.
It should list that it need online each time you start it.
Duomtl 29. apr. 2013 kl. 20:57
If you haven't reached the main menu yet, then alt-tabbing pauses the load screen, which in turn breaks your connection.

We'll work on that in the upcoming patch (you'll most probably be able to play offline; but won't have any achievements if you do so). I'll keep you posted about that.
