Does the Hidden Tape Deck serve a purpose?

I was lucky that I didn't have to resort to a walkthrough to find the hidden tape deck. To those of you who don't know how to find it, here'a a clue, Energy Sensor + Dunes = Hidden Tape Deck. I happened to be fooling around with the energy sensor when I found it. But I still wonder, what's the purpose of the thing? Was I supposed to play something with it or is it a novelty? I finished Primordia twice and I totally forgot about it because there doesn't seem to be a use for it.

Well, you can listen to a piece of music on it if you examine it. It was just a random thing Vic wanted added at the last minute, so there wasn't really any way to integrate it into other puzzles.
