I found Xpadder and that seems to work. I bound buttons according to the defaults in game (BTW: Pad 0 means number pad) As shown in the first tutorial for TR1. But now off to another forum to confront the no cut scene problem.

Sorry for taking a while to get back. I see you went with xpadder which is a nice app. You had issues with the logotech profiler even after installing the TR profile from here? You might have needed to do some tweeking with the button settings in Profiler afterward since you're using another pad type from the f710.
Use the picture from the TR1 tutorial above that shows default controls to set it all up.
