Ok great looking forward to coop once again :)! but any idea how many can coop?

I don't know how many player connections the original game supported (I never tried any large multiplayer groups) but unofficially the game could have supported up to 16 players, as evidenced by the fake-multiplayer test modes: You could build and play a map with up to 16 co-op starting positions and up to 16 deathmatch starting positions (both cases include the default player position marked in the editor by the brown arrow). (I always made it a point to build 16 deathmatch positions in my user maps.) Any more than 16 of either group and the map wouldn't load into the game.

Officially, the game could still only ever support up to 8 players because the original maps were built with only 8 co-op positions and I'm pretty sure no more than 8 deathmatch positions were ever built into the original maps, and if there were more players than starting positions in the original DOS versions, the extra players instantly died or shared bodies, and weird stuff happened.

So the short answer is: Should be 8 co-op, 8 deathmatch. But it would be great if more players could connect and at least spectate in a future version if not enough starting positions exist, as user maps could potentially support far more than 8 players.

Any approximate release date for this future patch that will support multiplayer games / dukematches? Are we talking about April? June? September? Anyway, that's definitely a great thing to have duke3d now available on my iMac! Cannot wait to play some dukematches again

I hope your joking about Steam Workshop.There would be no point in it.When the best mods for Duke3D right now only work on EDuke32.Like Dukeplus and War of Attrition (my personal favorite.)Besides,most of the people who made Duke3D mods,TCs,and Partial Conversion way back then are looooong gone now.

Don't you think just for a second that someone might make NEW mods for the NEW version of the game? Modders will always be there.
