Glitch during part where troll helps you

The first troll you meet lifts you on to a ledge and you have to press the trigger button to grab hold and keep it pressed as you use the directional stick to shimmy along it. Problem is, immediately the the character model starts glitching all around the place and the camera pans out towards the sky, and the game reloads as if he had died. Happens every time, with whichever brother I try first, and I can't get past this part.
I'm still only in the beginning of the game and this is already the second big glitch I've encountered of this sort, after the rope climbing glitch that's in another thread, but unlike that one I haven't seen a solution to this one. Is the whole game like this? I'm I just having really bad luck because of poor system settings? Any suggestions? Thank you.

If the glitch is related to PC performance, make sure you disable Vsync too.

I tried that, didn't work. Nor did trying the game at a higher resolution, or lowering my computer's resolution to 800x600. Same glitch. Such a stupid, unfair one too, gah! I'll email the developers, see if they can give me a savegame, or fix mine.

On the plus side, took dozens of epic screencaps.
