FEZ
To those new to the hate
Phil definately comes off as a total fscking scumbag, but then again... the community hasn't been very nice to him from the get go because he kept delaying the game to bring it up to his standards....

I mean, the community who supported him at first started sending him death threats, making hateful memes about him, and more. Furthermore, Microsoft was breathing down his neck about deadlines and had even cancelled funding on him at least once (Think it was twice). Then, if you watch Indie Game: The Movie, you'll see he had all kinds of hurdles to overcome because the guy he started the game with split off and was being a huge ♥♥♥♥ about ownership rights to the game. When the game finally released, the critics loved it, but the community hated Phil so much that they protested other people buying the game. Lastly, the guy gets a horrible wrap for not constantly updating the XBL game enough.

Check this out: http://www.craveonline.com/gaming/articles/183095-it-costs-40000-to-patch-a-game

It costs you $40,000 to update your game for each update after the second for every update! No matter how big or minimal your patch is, you will pay $40,000. How often can an indie afford to even update?

I also suggest you watch Indie Game: The Movie as it shows insight into FEZ's developement and the mental state of Phil after the many pressures he endured from cyber-bullying, microsoft deadlines, loss of funding, and more. The guy literally states at one point that if the game comes out after all this and everyone just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hates it and he makes no money after going into debt and losing his girl over it, that he was just going to kill himself.

Those are not the words of a happy rational human being. Those are the words of a man burned out and stressed beyond his means.

The game is gorgeous and pays homage to old adventure games. I emplore you to ignore the negativity around the game's developer and play the game for the experience of the game itself.

I wonder if he's actually a PR genius following the 'no such thing as bad publicity' mantra. he sure has everyone talking about him!

I really only care how good the game is, not who made it. And it looks great! I'll be getting it.
I don't care about the dev for the sake if he is sane or insane, if you know what i mean... i care about the game and how it works, i like the game and have been waiting for it since xbox release. Will pre-order very soon.
I have to say, this sub forum makes me begin to wonder if the dev has a point. Do all these people really have nothing better to do with their lives than post the same stuff in every thread about how much they hate the dev?

There are more important issues. they could be taking a stand against in life than this. :D

Many people are spending a fairly high percentage of the life they are given on video games. It will obv be important to people.

I spend a lot of my life on games and as a gamer the opinions of a game dev are a hell of a lot less important to me than the game.
I find it quite refreshing myself. :D Perhaps I'm just thick skinned.

Especially the comment about him doing a PC port for profit. I can't believe people are offended by that. I mean duh... what were they expecting? :D Any other reason would have just been a lie. Personally I appreciate the refreshing honesty.
The Milkman lähetti viestin:
If you're an indie dev and you want to release on consoles before PC, you should be prepared to be boned. Steam lets you update you game as much as you want for free. He made the mistake going to consoles.

You mean, he is at fault for accepting funding from Microsoft as an indie and thinking things were going to go smoothly. As soon as he accepted MS Money, he was going to be stuck as an exclusive on XBL for some time.
 Stripey lähetti viestin:
Also he had to have known about what a pain in the ass XBLA is. Nobody's dumb enough to release their game on a platform without researching it first, right?

Have you watched Indie Game: The Movie? He won a contest that was going to give him funding to finish the game. He didn't realize how insane it was going to be to partner with Microsoft. If you want to fault him, you have to fault Zeboyd Games, Supergiant Game, and Team Meat. Fact of the matter is that 5 years ago, when the project was starting, XBLA looked more than promising. It wouldnt be till later that we saw there was horrible indie support and absolutely no quality control resulting in a flooded market of terrible games that kept players from taking indies seriously on the console.
I understand stress, I understand being upset with how people treated him, I do not understand turning around and being just as bad if not worse. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

lol. He's just returning the said love (trolls).
Every single human being as faced a universal truth "not everyone is going to like you", and is up to everyone to face that situation as they can. Fish faced the wrong way, "you don´t like me? WELL I LIKE YOU VEN LESS" is pretty childish of him, is pretty childish of the community to follow up that hate no matter what the guy does. I think both sides should child out. I still believe the game is worth it even with Fish and all the hate and all of this noise.

I miss the days where we buyed games not giving a ♥♥♥♥ about who made them, since most fo them would not be interview eva. The internetz, the guarantee you need to find that everyone can be a jerk. If Jesus was re-born on this days, I´m sure we would found that he was a jerk too XDXDXDXD
