Do updates take forever after first one?

I got done with downloading the game, went through the rythems on the trian website to register to get the gift of another 2hrs of patching. Does it take this long each time or am I just catching up on alot of patches? I figured steam would have covered the updates when I downloaded clean but thats not the case here :(

You're catching up on a lot of patches. Steam doesn't patch MMO's, the client does.
