Question on walls/ditches... are they really that simple that nothing can get across/over them? :)
Also.. having issues with muilti-level building... say I start on depth 0 with walls for a room and I want to make a roof on top of that... how do I go about doing so? I've had... odd... results in the various bits I've tried... :( I figured I just had to go up one depth, lay that layer, go up one more, lay that layer, etc... ? Still trying to figure out "floors" as well... :)
Careful with ditches. Your gnomes can potentially fall in. And pretty much yeah theyre the ultimate defense.(theres supose to be a goblin tunneler but i cant confirm them).
Use scaffolding to reach next level and the only roofs we have are floors sadly. if you want to build a bigger wall you still need a floor between each level. (cant build wall on wall.)
Say you wanted to make a 2 story high walkable wall? each square actually costs 4 blocks/logs ect.
depth0 wall
depth1 floor and wall then
depth 2 floor.
scaffolding is ur best friend. You can build it super high but it only takes 1 action to deconstruct it.(whole thing falls when u deconstruct bottom level)
When you're building you have a wall and a much thinner floor level. Since one of the more recent updates, they'll build the floor automatically if they can get to it when they go to build a wall. Ramps and inclines and stairs are built on the wall level. Floor and horizontal axles (parts for engineering and mechanisms) are at the floor level.
Was getting frustrated and tempted to just build everything underground. ;)
Appreciate the tips!
Weird. Ya it eventually went away. I have an "accept everything" stockpile and it had free slots so... odd. On the up side, I wasnt crazy thinking deconstruct would in fact, deconstruct. :)
Got my first trader visiting! ... and realized I cant afford most anything he has. Boo. Time to start making clay figurines and whatnot I suppose.
The first game I ever played (huge dwarf fortress player) I went all out constructing that and unfortunately grew my wealth way too fast, way too quickly and my military got creamed so badly it made me smile.
if you've completely closed off your kingdom from the edges...i.e. built a wall/ditch that incloses your kingdom with no entrances
In DF was hell, yeah.
In this game? Not so much. Lakes arent frozen, so you have unlimited watersupply.
Crops dont disappear, you can harvest them anytime in winter, as long they mature in fall.
Gnomes dont freeze to death running/sleeping outside just wearing summer cloth.
