How do you get the stuff tp smelt ore

If you want to turn metal ore into bars, you need a Forge. Smelter is for turning finished goods back ino bars/slivers.

Finsihed goods also include the worn items that are dropped. It's a bit of a confusion point as in other games, the smelter actually MAKES the bars [ie: Skyrim] whereas the "Forge" makes them in Gnomoria. I had to look it up on the wiki as I made a smelter first and couldnt figure out what the heck I couldnt make bars!

Build a Prospector Workshop and Prospect the dirt you have laying around. It will yield Metal Slivers and Silica. 10 Metal Slivers = 1 Metal Bar.

You can also melt down any metal item you have or dig down into the earth and build mines, to discover Ore.


And just in case you didn't mean that.. you build a Hearth and Bellows in your Stonemason and Carpentry Workshops.
