downgrade xenonauts 1.5 to 1.09?

I play with xenophopia, which requires xenonauts v 1.09. I thought I had disabled update -> more like "start update when I launch the game".
I have stopped the update to v1.5, but the game can't be launched, without the full update I guess, and won't work anymore outside of steam.
So are there any known solutions to this?

The announcement on the main page has instructions on how you can revert to V1.09 if you want to - you just need to switch to the legacy branch and you'll get V1.09 back.

I changed it but Xenophobia appears to not be working and all my saves for it aren't being detected :'(

So I had the same problem and wanted to share the solution i found:
Simply changing to the legacy branch wont work because its simply overwriting the current game with the legacy branch and u are stuck with some old and new data. In order to get a clean 1.09 install u have to verify game integrity.
So -> Change to legacy branch 1.09 in Steam -> verify integrity of game chache ( that can take a while if u modded like hell) -> install XNT 5.31 -> install Xenophobia 1.50.a ( or whatever version you were running) -> my saves had the the xenophobia 1.51 patch so in order to play them you have to install -> Xenophobia 1.51 patch fron AND_Great as well and voila, you are done.
Also if u saved saves with the xenonauts gc editor they wont be shown in the normal load screen, which happened to me.
Maybe a lot of that is obvious but i spend endless hours to get that running again and found no solution until i discovered this.
