Oblivion crashes on startup (clean install, no mods)
After a period of nonactivity, I'm attempting to play Oblivion again. I just installed it today, and I've done nothing to the data file, or game file. There are no mods installed, and yet somehow the game stops working immediately, before I even get access to the software logo screen.

It goes into full screen, is black for a second, and then immediately freezes and I get an "Oblivion has stopped working" error.

My specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
Intel i5-4690K stock speed.
EVGA GTX 750ti FTW/ACX Cooling
2x4gb 1866MHz G.Skill Sniper Series RAM
1280x1024 screen format.

So the launcher comes up, but after you press play it goes dark? If that's the case try deleting your Oblivion.ini file and let the game generate a new one for you. Try disabling HDR.

Thank you, for whatever reason the disabling HDR immediately fixed the issue, didn't even have to drop the .ini

I fixed this by using a RAM extender, which allows Oblivion to use more ram than it tries to. I used http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/32405/?

Just in case you want to play with HDR :D
