The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Bring back past games? Yes? No?
I'm just wondering if Bethesda could or should bring back Arena and Daggerfall, but with the Skyrim-quality of graphics and sounds. I've never played them but I keep hearing lots about them, especially in a nostalgic way. I just started the series with Morrowind.

What do you think? Did you ever play them?

Totally, nothing so fancy, even just a version that u don´t need to spend so long in configuration, and can use HD resolutions, etc. The games are free on the ES site, but I will definitely pay for a improved version. We have Doom, Wolfensteim, Tomb Raider, and many classics here, so why not this? Even only for collection

I don't think that's technologically possible. The first game, Arena takes place in the whole Tamriel and Daggerfall takes place in a very large part of it. To cope with the massive landscape, Bethsoft programmed the first two games with procedural landscape creation, that means the game creates the landscape randomly. The downside to that is the town settings, dungeons and roads are different every time. With Morrowind, they started to "create" the land, hand placed everything but scaled Vvardenfel 10 to 1. This "scaling" goes on still, that means the "real" Skyrim is 10 times bigger. And since they scale a single country on Tamriel, creating the whole continent is either impossible, or not feasible. Though Elder Scrolls Online is announced to do this, I doubt it will be released all at once and I think they'll keep the decision to downsize. But it's good to dream nonetheless.

I also think so that making a full remake will be too much, only a future dream, that´s why I will be more that happy with classic version adapted to modern OS and pc

If you want extremely watered down versions of the games so that consoles can handle them and kids won't complain they are too hard, then yes.

There's an updated version of Daggerfall (and several other games from that era) in the works. Google XLEngine if you're interested.

The Daggerfall update is in the early alpha stage but looks very promising.

I have played Arena a bit,it was alot like some of the Wizardry games in the past, nothing like Morrowind.Daggerfall is free and downloadable from Bethesda's Home page but it would not work on todays PC's because it's a DOS program...yes that how old it is.Well I could not get it to work. I would like to see them some how release Daggerfall on Steam or in some format that windows programs could run it.

Thanks so much for this URL, StabbyKitteh! I'll try downloading it now. On the same website is the Arena setup. Does that work too?

Never tried the Arena setup, though I've been told it works just fine.
Have Daggerfall installed currently.

(my Skyrim Khajiits are all pretty stabby...)

Sure. I never played Daggerfall and would like too with updated graphics and a few dlcs would be nice.
Daggerfall? Skrim Graphics? You do realize Daggerfall is 2x the size of Great Britian and more. Sure inbetween towns their wasnt much just random trees and monsters but that would still be a lot of power to pull of. It would be nice for an HD upgrade and a little boost in graphics. But giving daggerfall Skyrim's graphics defeats the purpose of playing it. Arena was.. okay.. Never really cared for it too much tbh. A couple HD upgrades, slight graphical ups, and release it on consoles aswell.

"Skyrim quality graphics and sound" That really makes me angry.... Games aren't aall about the graphics frst of all it would take ages to do, and daggerfall is massive, so I'm not even sure it would be possible, ugh, skyrim quality graphics and sound... ugh....

I think it would be fantastic to see debugged re-releases of all of the ES games up to Morrowind (Arena, Daggerfall, Redguard) that will run on modern PC's without needing to go through complex emulators, and run on any systems native screen resolution. I'd buy them ... horrifically low rez textures, low poly objects (including "Doom/Wolfenstien" style sprite based characters in Arena) and all.

Re-doing them with the Skyrim engine though??? ... nooooo wwwaaaayyyy ... Not gonna happen. EVER.

Only possible way would be if done as a fan project like Morroblivion or Skywind, but the resources required would totally not be worth the effort. The game worlds are just WAYYYYY too big.
