Answer these Questions if the above step did not help you:
1. What System are you using?
2. did you install the game to another location then steams usual one?
also try to google for the problem.
posting your specs here would be better.
I use wind 10 with average system specs (for our present) game runs fine. Even with mods installed it crashes rarely
This is definitely a bug, it's hitting me as well, you open the hatch for Seyda Neen and it immediately crashes. Simple solution if you're not looking for a heavily modified game, download MGE XE from nexus mods, extract it to your Morrowind directory, and run MGEXEgui as admin. To test all I did was set my game to 1920x1080, set AA To 2x, and enabled shaders, closed and tried game, boom can get off the ship. So I still have a full vanilla experience and the game is working *so far*... Going to try to lower the res now for bigger fonts or i'll just end up using a mod for bigger text. I may still end up adding the exe patch, 4gb patch, and code patch if I experience more crashes, may be worth looking into. Must be something with the stock game shaders crashing on outdoor environments.
Hope this solves the problem for OP.
