"game.exe has stopped working" error.
My specs are:
Intel Dual Core E2200
3GB RAM
Ge-Force 9400 GT 512 MB

It appears after the SNK logo and some "loading" screen, before the actual opening video every time i'm trying to run the game. Video decoder for "wmv" files is working fine and it actually stars on before the crash occurs. I also can't find any save data file anywhere, though i had the "creating save data" screen and it appeared to be successful.
I tried all stuff - reinstalling, verifying, admin-execution, -w, -novid and starting the game with .exe file instead of steam library shortcut - it doesn't work for me.
So this are my thoughts about this issues:
1. It may be something to do with video decoder in coup with an actual application. I don't know how though. I can presume, that there is no actual "leap" possibility when OS can't play video files for some reason (though i can watch them in game directory). And so the game shuts itself when loading pattern is broken. It's pretty strange for current generation games though so i won't bet on this anyway.
2. It may be the deal with uncreated save file that game is trying to load. Save file creating procedure is accounted to be done successfuly and so no other saved data file will be created. But since it actually went wrong, no saved data can be loaded and game crashes. I don't know, it may be possible for beta, but yet again, it's a little bit stupid.
3. It may be ratio incompatibility as well, but i don't know if KoF forces widescreen definition or not and if this could really become a problem.

Since i don't know anything about the game actual code and algorithms, i can't say anything for sure, but i'm sure that to fix that, i'd need to know the logic behind that problem. What can actually cause the crash there.

I'd appreciate any responses from SNK developers staff.

I'm getting the error after doubleclicking KOF13 in the steam library :/
Cannot start the game.
EDIT: Right clicked the game in the steam library, clicked "set launch options" and added "-novid" without the ". The game seems to work now!

EDIT2: oh, okay I'm sorry.

@Blueshifted our problem is different from yours. We get the crash after the logos during the loading before the opening.

The problem where you immediately crash on startup is cause of antivirus/library.

Also want to notify that ccleaner picks up problems from king of fighters when I scan the registry.

Invalid firewall rule. > game.exe
Missing Mui reference > game.exe

Mmm... so MUI stands for Multilingual User Interface, but i doubt that there is actual mistake in it. It seems that Ccleaner is throwing that error string pretty much on every program that you re-installed even once in it's lifetime or whatever reason it finds... reasonable, so i'd pass this on to ccleaner staff instead.
As for Invalid Firewall Rule... i doubt if has something to do with our inability to launch the game, tbh.

Shu, do you have access to the system events?
There should be more info there (dumps, debug info and so on)

Well to me it has something like
"Application error game.exe, version 0.0.0.0, module game.exe, version 0.0.0.0, adress 0x0011f642."

Odd, the event log visor provides more information, normally. Are you using the one that opens when you right-click your computer icon and then clicking on "Admin"?

I have basically the same issue (I think, might be slightly different timing). In the video below I'm using '-w -novid' as options (as suggested elsewhere), removing them has the same result.

http://youtu.be/zmhVG90o4as

My system:

Windows 8 64-bit
AMD Athlon II x4 630 2.8GHz
8GB ddr3 ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550ti, memory: 1GB GDDR5

I also have 2 screens, I tried unplugging one and then run "detect" in the "Screen Resolution" options. It had no effect.

Happy to give more info if needed.

So basically it has nothing to do with operation system and configuration. I run WinXP SP3 on my rusty hardware with same results, so it must be something else.
It could be codecs, drivers, some additional soft, language supports, save data problems, resolution conflicts, etc.
Though i think that it's most likely something to do with visuals in general, something about renders or... something =\

I think our problem is lower priority to everything else, so that's why I'm salty.
HANA 2013 年 8 月 29 日 下午 2:35
Well, crashes are always hardest to debug. You don't know anything - except that it crashed.

Good call about the codec. That was apparently my issue.

You see? I'm not only here to summon some devs, i'm also trying to figure this out myself. I'll try to check out someone else's system configuration tomorrow to see the difference between "it works for me" and "it doesn't work at all".
Anyway, we must have something in common (or, to be precise, there must be something that we're all missing, compared to those who can run the game).

Hey which codecs do I download?
