Crashing? Freezing? After March 26, 2014 update
This thread is for reporting crashes after the March 26 Molotov Spring update.

Common reports are crashes during start-up and map change. These are very likely because of your anti-virus software blocking insurgency.exe - so be sure to set an exemption - even if you did before, it might have blocked the updated file. If that doesn't work, follow the steps below.

We are working hard to solve the stability issues for everyone. Of course, this being a PC game, there are so many variables and factors among the different types of hardware, drivers, and in game code.

Please be patient with us - the majority of players are not experiencing these issues, so it makes it more difficult to figure out the cause.

1. Check your anti-virus.
Make sure your anti-virus program is not blocking insurgency.exe. If it is, make sure to have your anti-virus bypass our application, and while you're at it email them and ask them why they are flagging our software.

Some anti-viruses, such as Avira, will sometimes not alert you that the game has been detected as a virus and may look like that the game has frozen on startup instead.

2. Check your specs.
Ensure your computer meets the system requirements.

3. Make sure you're up to date.
Update the drivers for your graphics card and chipset. Make sure Windows Update is receiving updates and is patched up. Verify the integrity of your game by right clicking Insurgency in Steam, Properties, Local Files, Verify integrity of game cache.

4. Optimize your game settings.
If you are using Surround Sound audio in the game and crash when explosions go off near you, try setting your audio settings to 2 Speakers and see if it stops your crashing.

If you are crashing randomly or when under fire, try lowering your graphics settings, including those under Advanced Video (effects detail, shader detail, texture detail, etc.). If that doesn't work, try adjusting your screen resolution to a lower one than you are trying to use, this may need to be less than native.

If you are crashing when alt+tabbing, try running your game in a borderless window.

5. Try doing without the Steam Overlay.
Try disabling the Steam overlay for in game by un-checking the option "Enable Steam Community In-Game" in Insurgency Game Properties (right click -> properties from Steam Library).

6. Check the Pre-Requisites.
Insurgency should install the DirectX and Visual C++ 2010 redistributables. If something went wrong with this, it could cause problems if you don't have it installed already. You can find them here: DirectX runtime[www.microsoft.com], Visual C++ 2010 runtime[www.microsoft.com].

7. Check your processes.
If it's definitely not your anti-virus, it could be other third party software disrupting the game. Try disabling any background software that may interfere with the game such as Overwolf, Raptr, Xfire, Mumble's overlay or Shadowplay. FRAPS is a known program to crash the game.

8. Work with us.
If you manage to solve the crashing issue with any of the steps above, please post here exactly what worked so others may try.

If your crashing persists, please upload your crash dump file from the directory:

C:/Program Files/Steam/dumps

to our Forum thread, along with the specs of your computer.

We truly want to solve these problems for everyone. It's not fun crashing, as we know from personal experience as well. We are a tiny team by comparison of some other AAA games.

I am still crashing on map changes. Have completely reinstalled with new update, verified cache, checked antivirus white lists, etc... No dumps are being created when crashing.
Dumps not being generated makes me suspect the crash isn't coming from the game itself but is instead caused by something interfering with the game. I'd like to know about your OS, hardware specs and software installed/running.
Lol, you guys don't support wine so how can we work with you? or is no. 8 for every else?

Win 7 Pro
2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo
4GB ram
Nvidia GTX 650

Use MSE for antivirus, but I have played with it on, completely off and with INS whitelisted with no diffence.

Steam overlay on or off has no effect.

I don't really have a lot of background programs running, just normal windows stuff.

This did not happen back during pre-release. It started when the full retail came out and has been happening consistently except for one brief period after the 2/10 update.

There was a dump created today while playing:

Graphical bug with menu; when changing resolution, the MAIN menu keeps its resolution and quickly becomes unreachable as it dissapears off screen. The OPTIONS menu is affected by the resolution changes though. Weird bug.

Looked at the dump and this was being spammed before the game died:

1 GB

But I dont think that dump is related to the map change crashes. If the map change output a dump, there'd be hundreds of them in that folder.

FINNALY THIS HAS UPDATE
My brother way playing on a borrowed PC and had a crash starting up. It's Win7, Intel quad-core (forgot model of CPU) and running twin EVGA 250GT's with 8GB of DDR3. I know this isn't much, just reporting it for sake of eliminating or correlating common variables.

It's a map load crash when it's trying to allocate textures for the level's light maps. For a temporary workaround you might want to lower texture detail.
the game is still crashing at the start up menu.. ive done about everything including the antivirus.
I hope this is the correct place to post given I am not 'crashing'...

Since the update today, every minute or so, the screen freezes - like a lag spike. Same system build as yesterday with no new programs installed or running in the background. Anyone else having a similar experience?
I just bought this, can't play for more than ten minutes without the game crashing. I've tried all the fixes to no avail.

Win 8.1
i7-2700k
8GB RAM
GTX 660 Ti

Here be dumps.[www.dropbox.com]

1 of them was a crash after changing graphics settings, we've got a fix for that in the works. The others were to do with the bots on the practice mode map, we're investigating. Playing PvP on a live server should work.
