Why? The T-90 is a just outside the scope of the game as production did not begin until 1993 and the tank itself is arguably slightly inferior to the T-80U.

Early t-90 ~ last t-72. And yes just T-90 worse then t-80U. T-90A is too modern for Game. it's like m1a2.

T-90 is too young for this period. Better to make an experimental Object 292! Just because of its awesome 152-mm gun

They had a similar argument about what jet fighters would be in the game and which ones wouldn't on the original alpha forums. All of the military buffs were listing out all of the planes and researching their specs and operations only to find out that all of the cool ones were post Cold War.
