1 - start playing vs easy opponents...and gradually work your way higher the better you become.
2 - send out a few infantry squads and hide them in forests/cities near intersections/roads that the enemy has to go thru to get to your important/base areas. They will ambush any enemy infantry/vehicles that try rushing thru those areas.
3 - Send out a few anti-aircraft weapons and hide them in forests close enough to protect your ambush infantry, but behind the infantry so the enemy has to go thru your infantry to kill your anti-aircraft weapons. Avoid putting them in open areas since enemy tanks will just sit back and kill them with long range firepower.
4 - Join my Wargame group. I posted about it in "Newbies and Veterans welcome!" We usually play together (and learn together) while killing computer opponents.
Hope some of that helps.
Pay attention to their weapons: If you going for Anti-Tank infantry, higher AP (Armor Piercing) damage is best...but also look for good accuracy (if they can't hit a target, high AP won't make a big difference). Same with other infantry...make sure their weapons are best you can find to hit, and kill, the enemy.
One tactic I've used before (worked well) is put special forces/elite type infantry in forests near roads (they ambush enemies travelling those roads VERY well. And put my long distance Anti-Tank infantry in forests/buildings with alot of open area around them (or between them an roads) so they are hidden until enemies travel close by.
Just little suggestions to try.
