Unable to create graphic device (please help)

When I start up wargame the initial loading screen comes up (the one with two jets), then the screen goes black and I get and error message;


Error
Critical error: Unable to create graphic device
Reason:
ChangeMode faliure

I then click 'ok' and I get another message;

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: ...earn/steamapps/common/Wargame Airland Battle\wargame2.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusal way.


I know my laptop can run this game as I have a few mates who have been playing it on theirs (same model laptop), with low graphics of course.
Please help me fix this issue, if you manage to figure it out I would be very greatful.
