Hi everyone,

As we did with KOF98UMFE, we are starting a separate beta branch of the game. Note you will be able to do matchmaking between the beta and main branches as it stands, so please don't let that discourage you from joining the beta branch.

The purpose of the beta branch is just to reduce the frequency of updates for people who are only interested in major fixes.


THE LATEST BETA VERSION IS BUILD 543254.

The latest changes are:

* Further adjustments to work around some drivers' palette corruption on Character Select and Order Select screens

Previous changes:

* Adjustments made to Character Select screen to address graphics glitches some video drivers are seeing

* Make sure Command Record text is not cropped off top in Practice mode when Type B screen size selected

* Stop double highlight in Expert Challenge screen when viewing description

* Hide mouse cursor during full screen online play too

* Screen height stretching can be changed in Graphic Setting using "Screen" option. (Now works like XBLA version.)

* Mouse pointer now hides when in game play, if you are playing full screen.


TO JOIN THE BETA BRANCH:

Right click on the game in your library, select Properties, select the Beta tab, and then key in the passcode "SleeplessCoders" (that's with a capital "S" and a capital "C") and then select "publicbeta" from the drop down above, and Close. It should queue the update, watch for it to complete. You may have to press "Play" before the download will start but you should definitely see the download progress.

If you aren't seeing it download, we've found that if you go into Properties->Local Files and click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache... you can nudge Steam into queuing the update immediately. You don't even have to let the verify complete. Just starting and cancelling it is enough. Then you'll see "- Update queued" next to the game. After that you should be able to download the update by right clicking or just attempting to Play.

98UM already went through its own process of fixes and adjustments.

i know but the game "engine" looks the same, and maybe errors discovered here can affect the previous game

If there are any errors discovered here that do affect the previous game, we do tend to carry them back. There was already an update issued to KOF98 the same day KOF2002 launched, just a couple days ago. That said, only about 20% of the code is common to both.

Trying the beta, THANK YOU VERY MUCH CODE MYSTICS, its much better now : )

Type A you can see the pixels arent "even"

Hope you can implement the Type Sizes options on 98UM, going to replay it to see if there is the same problem.

THe online play is superb, over the 98UM FE, I dont know if you did changes to 2k2UM online and maybe those changes can be implemented on 98 UM online?

^ To be honest, I feel things have gotten a bit worse, lots of stuttering and slowdown sometimes. It's not as smooth and stable as KOF98UMFE's netplay.

It's a mixed bag for me, there are times when I couldn't do nameless' standard cl.C xx f.B xx f.A. I remember a Chris that had trouble trying to combo into st.C after his flip, too.

That's usually how netplay goes anyway. Somebody in my own state is unplayable, but I can play somebody else states away perfectly. No different than games like BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, and UNIEL for me.

I would say the netcode feels the same for me, though.

I played with the same friend KOF2002UM and KOF98UM
It was way much better in KOF2002UM

I am comparing how things felt in the closed beta test. The game ran extremely smooth, now its jerky sometimes, especially online.

_when on type-b graphics, life bars and maximum bars are more at the edge of the screen can those be more centered like in type-a?

_when in practice mode some text is cut off screen when in type-b, like "press start to recording"

also i wanna say again that you need a degree of some sort to be able to record the dummy to do moves in this game, the interface is a labyrinth

it's impossible for me on one controller, and like a maze with two controllers attached

shootouts to whoever implemented this (i'm joking, but it's a utter nightmare)

pls someone tell me if i'm wrong

_the game seems to recognize only two controllers at once, if i have a third one attached i can't switch to that into the options

edit: also if i can suggest, since type-b is the correct pixel ratio for the game on a pc, why not just correct bars orientation and made it the only choice? it makes no sense to have the characters squished if the image ratio is not 16:9 imho

Ah, I see, I was MIA for a bit during the beta for emergency reasons and only got to play it here or there for a bit. I'll take your word for it, then. I just didn't notice any difference while testing the 360 and PS2 versions for that one thing.

Anybody else who was in the closed beta should throw in their two cents.
