Is there a way to get down to the storage hall?
I know that you can hop on the shelves but is there also a way to get down to the bottom?

Yes, you can jump down from whereever you want.

You can climb along the shelves (as you did) and get to 2m above the floor like this xD

During one of the hidden endings you re-enter the lift and if you back out before it closes you can safely fall to the floor below.
