What about buying the first Rocksmith songs DLC and not the game? Will those songs show up in the new Rocksmith 2014 anyway?

I have not bought the first Rocksmith game. However, I was wondering if I just buy the songs from the first Rocksmith and not the game, will those songs show up in the new Rocksmith 2014 that I purchased even though I did not purchase the first Rocksmith?

I dont know if you can buy dlc from the first game if you don't own it, but what i would do if I were you wait till rocksmith goes on sale for 75% buy it and then you have all those songs to play on the new rocksmith. Also all dlc from first game you can purchase with in rocksmith 2014.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion I had! I saw some DLC songs in the first Rocksmith that I want/like and wanted to make sure I could somehow purchase them for in Rocksmith 2014 or get them in Rocksmith 2014. Much appreciated! ^_^

It probably depends on how they implement the backwards compatibility.
Rocksmith 2014 has a bunch of new in-song techniques and I heard somewhere that they're going to be updating the old songs to make use of those new techniques when played in the new game.

It might be that they're going to remake all the old DLC songs as DLC for the new game and just automatically add them to our accounts if we had bought the original versions.
If that was the case, then anyone who hadn't bought the original versions would simply be able to buy the new versions via the Rocksmith 2014 store page.

They've already confirmed that DLC from the previous version will be available for 2014.

The thing you won't be able to buy separately is the original songs that came with the first game. If you don't already have a cable, you can buy the original Rocksmith + cable for about the same price as just the cable, itself, and then you would have all of the original songs to import, too.

Or, like someone else said, you can just wait for a Steam Sale...

No, this is way worse than that. The songs show up in the second game's shop, but when you go to buy them it tells you need to buy the first game to play them. This is infuriating. The second game only comes with like 3 good songs. There are plenty in the store, but they are forcing you to buy the old game to play the songs that were on it.
For an expensive game with an expensive cable and expensive dlc's (not to mention plenty of bugs) im not paying to buy THEIR OLD FAILED GAME TOO. Get your ♥♥♥♥ together ubisoft. seriously.

First of all... Their old game was hardly a "failed" game. You don't make a sequel of a "failed" game.

Second of all... It is a verified Steam issue, and I can relate to your frustration, because it is beyond me why they haven't FIXED the damned thing yet... But other platforms don't have this issue, and they really need to fix it here.

Honestly, though...? In the interim, you CAN get a cheap deal on a Steam code for the original game, plus the Disc Transfer Tool... for far less than $1 a song for about 45 songs.

That's a good deal that I would recommend that ANYONE take advantage of, regardless of Steam issues.

I bought the original for less than $15 off of eBay, free postage from Canada to Australia, and then $10 for the tool. So 50 odd songs for $25 plus the ability to buy a bunch of awesome song packs. Pretty good deal for me.

Certainly was frustrating at first as the songs were advertised in the 2014 game but didnt let me purchase - but quite frankly I have played for well over 100 hours and barely even touched more than half a dozen songs, there is so much to do while you wait for it to be rectified or for you to rectify it yourself.

DLC is the same price for anyone on either game. There is no transfer fee for DLC. The Disc Transfer Tool applies only to the original songs that came on the Rocksmith disc, because those songs had to be relicensed in order to allow for their use in Rocksmith 2014.

It's only a Steam issue that prevents you from buying DLC that was released prior to Rocksmith 2014 if you don't own the original game. Like I said before, other platforms do not have the same issue.

So, for example, if you actually did own the old game, you would be able to buy any DLC you wanted, and it would show up in both games... Regardless if you ever used the Disc Transfer Tool, or not.

I honestly do not know what is taking them so long to get this fixed. With as many times as I have helped people who were confused (and upset) with this issue, it is clear to me that a lot of sales are being lost.

All I was saying is that, apart from this issue, you can still get a really good deal on the on-disc songs from the original. You can get a copy of the original game for pretty cheap, add $10 for the transfer tool, and you will come out with a lot of songs for less than $1 per song. Galahadoc seems to have gotten that as low as $0.50 per song.

That would also be a workaround for the DLC issue. Or, you can wait until Valve gets this fixed.

Essentially it's the same as buying a hard copy and transferring them, so i assume you dont need a tool for it.

I would not recommend buying the original game directly from Steam. Amazon is cheaper right now, and other places are cheaper still. It doesn't matter where you buy it, because all PC copies of the original Rocksmith are Steam only. Just don't make the mistake of buying it used, or something.

But yes, you would still need the Disc Transfer Tool in order to be able to import the songs that came with the original game into Rocksmith 2014. That's because Ubisoft had to relicense those songs, in order for them to be allowed to be used in Rocksmith 2014. The DLC had different licensing agreements that didn't need to be renegotiated.

If you do end up buying the original game, and the transfer tool, be aware that there are five songs that won't be able to transfer to the new game, because Ubisoft was not able to get the licensing for them to transfer. Those songs are "Run to Your Side" by Clapton, "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream, "Star Spangled Banner" and "Jules" by Seth Chapla, and "Boss" by Chris Lee.

Chapla and Lee were Ubisoft devs that are no longer with the company, and Clapton, for whatever reason, wasn't receptive to having his songs relicensed.

Exactly the same as if you purchase a disc, except until there is another sale it's probably just double the price of a physical copy. So you buy the steam version of RS1 and then $10 for the transfer tool if you want the songs from original, if you don't care about those songs and just want to make the DLC compatible with RS2014 I would suggest that you wait for Ubi and Steam to fix it. FYI, as is the case for most games, I just clicked "+ ADD A GAME..." on the bottom left corner of steam and selected "Activate a product on Steam" and just entered the activation key from inside the disc cover. I love Steam as a gambing hub!
