X Error of failed request: BadWindow

Hello,

I am on Ubuntu 12.04 and the steam client works. The games have worked before but then I upgraded a few days ago after having not used steam for a long time.

Now I get the following error when launching a game

X Error of failed request:  BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
  Major opcode of failed request:  15 (X_QueryTree)
  Resource id in failed request:  0x400002
  Serial number of failed request:  46
  Current serial number in output stream:  46
Game removed: AppID 107200 "Space Pirates and Zombies", ProcID 2023

xserver version

xserver-xorg   1:7.6+12ubuntu

I have installed nvidia-304 to make use of the nvidia GPU in the laptop.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT218M [GeForce G210M] (rev ff)

Steam is run with "optirun steam".

Is this a known error? Any workarounds?

I know some of the games work, like Thomas Was Alone since it can without the steam client.

Same here, cannot play any linux games for months now, created bugreport on github but no response: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/portal2/issues/219 (title is different but segfault occurs after BadWindow).
