Steam for Linux

TF2 Open beta may be starting
TF2 just became available for me to download (not trying to Jinx myself), I have not received any official invitation might mean a open beta is gearing up.

It became available for me too... but, unfortunately, it seems that I will not be able to test it, thanks to the "amazing" fglrx-legacy driver...

Yep, available for me as well. Downloading right now. I'm really hoping this is a real thing and not just a fluke.

EDIT
It's the same file format and everything as the Windows version. I copied over the files from my Windows partition and the download jumped to 98%.

Same. I started the install, then copied over the files that I had, renamed them to the case-sensitive names the Linux copies had, and it's now downloading the last of 200mb.

yep working fine for me.

Funnily enough Multicore Rendering still causes garbled text for me, as it did in WINE, but performance is better overall.

This is very cool of you Valve.

You are probably right with that. So tf2 might disappear once Valve finds out about the leak. But lets hope not. Also Valve if your reading this please fix the cursor for the steam Linux beta, that near sideways cursor is annoying.

Yeah just downloaded the whole 10gbs and it's working not on Intel GMA HD xD I'll try it on my desktop later. :) Thanks Valve, now can we get CS:S and the rest of your awesome games?

I've been able to install and run it on Gentoo too. It's working pretty much perfectly with the latest Nvidia drivers.

check if you have a ~/Steam/SteamApps/<user>/Team\ Fortress\ 2/hl2.sh
file.
I'm chatting with someone who is missing that file. Perhaps it's a corrupt download

I'm on Gentoo amd64 too and the game is running great

I don't think that it's open beta now. They just opened it for UDS attendees and everyone else probably got it by mistake.
