Thanks Valve for taking the Linux plunge. Don't loose hope!

Hi Valve.
We, the silent majority of Linux users, love you. Getting a Linux version of such a huge gaming platform to our favourite OS is great, and you should never forget that.

I see a lot of people complaining about the driver options in the survey not including the more exotic options, like "built from source" and people quoting Stallman about the use of "Linux" instead of "GNU/Linux".

I want Valve to know, that these are the minority of Linux gamers, and should not dissuade you from following through with professional Linux support for the Steam platform. Even if you piss all those people off, I know I will still run and enjoy my Steam games, on any Linux distro, and I won't be alone.

Agreed, even if the initial platform is only available on the default drivers and Ubuntu, it will probably get better and its just a beta now.

This is what I'm thinking, too. Who started selling games as download on the internet? It takes someone with a great vision for the future to leave the old trusted paths. I'm not surprised that Valve ended up being the one who helps Linux as a gaming platform. I always felt that Valves corporate spirit is very different from other companies in the industry.

Yeah you do get the feeling Valve are quite different.

Of course we can never expect them to go all FOSS or anything, it just wouldn't (couldn't?) happen but that's okay. To me, because of the service they provide and trail blazing, the compromise is worth it.

It's always annoyed me that I had to swap to windows for gaming (as opposed to linux for everything else). I really hope it takes off, and that people who see the value of free software also see the value of paid software.
