Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

Games shown on SteamOS page...
On the SteamOS announcement page
(in case somebody missed it: http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamOS/ ),
five games are shown.
Are these real games?
Are some announcements hidden in theses pictures?
Or are these just dummies?

The lower mid one looks a bit like Trine?
The upper right is a football manager, so perhaps Football Manager 2014
(which already has been announced for Linux)?

Football manager, trine, eu4, one says rome 2, not sure the bottom right image, maybe metro last light.
That makes sense. So Rome 2 would be the only one not yet announced?
It's showing Linux games; that would make sense because SteamOS would only be able to play LInux games, not Windows/Mac-based games. I see Trine 2, Football Manager, Europa Universalis?/Crusader Kings and... that's pretty much all I know.

I agree, but I hoped for some Linux games not yet announced.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, this is just what I read somewhere (I haven't gone through the official announcements yet). That article said SteamOS will be able to play Windows games by connecting to your (booted) Windows computer nd stream the games from there onto SteamOS/your tv.

There are a number of games their developers say would provide Linux support whereof.

That's right. I'd present Linux games nervertheless.
Or if presenting a Windows game as well, it should be very big stuff like GTA.
I think that was more to do with the SteamBox than SteamOS; you can install a Windows operating system on SteamBox and replace (or dual boot?) with SteamOS if that's what you're asking.

Did you read the announcement?
It is linked in the question.

Oh lol sorry. xD Reading...
Streaming games over a network and then playing them would be a lot to demand of bandwidth.

They say streaming games even works over the internet, and in SteamOS' case, it is only streamed over the (fast & controlled) evironment of your home network.
I wouldn't want to need two PCs though. But with a modern TV(!) as a streaming client and a PC in the next room as the server... Might work.

Cool! This proves that SteamOS will have among its family support functionality: a babyphone!
You wouldn't be able to use a TV as a streaming device unless it allows for controller input. A 'Steam client' TV could be a marketing opportunity though.
A 1080p60 signal would have to be compressed for transport over a network. It could potentially stream over a good WiFi network but I expect you really need Ethernet to minimize lag and guarantee throughput. The round trip from the picture being streamed, controller input sent back, processing, and the resulting frames streamed, local network lag could become noticeable.
A lower resolution such as 720p might be an option - except for PC players who would already consider 1080p60 a compromise.
