then don't use the drivers... duh.
AMD drivers are quite bad under Linux, given the amount of criticism herein. I'm sorry you're experiencing issues with your driver, and I'm no AMD user.
ubuntu 12.04
flgrx experiment 9 seem to be the best solution for me using a radon 6670 card
if you have a nvidia card use the ppa installation for updating drivers, same with ati. just look up a forum that will give you the sudo command and fallow the instructions.
blame amd :-)
Ps4 use amd too, dead console.

That can be the joy of AMD GPU

Actually though, your FPS seems abnormally low.

I can get 20-30 FPS in TF2 on my AMD Mobility 4500, with a worse dual core CPU (Athlon X2, Sony Vaio laptop), on the FREE Radeon driver.

So...yeah.

Even with the latest kernel, Mesa and xorg driver?
My 6850 is supposed to be a weaker card, still i have much better performance. Drivers are crap but not as much as the nvidia agents say.

1. Don't use AA.
2. Don't use vsync.
3. Make sure your CPU runs at full speed.
4. Make sure you have a decent dm that doesn't affect performance drastically.
i don't get how people manage to get results that bad. I'm using an HD 6450 and i get around 30 to 60 fps with no AA and high shader detail

try disabling tear free desktop and make sure compiz has the option to redirect windows checked
> Compiz
> Games
Choose one.
Open the Ubuntu Software Center, go to Edit -> Software Sources, there the Additional Drivers tab. What do you see?

as a long time AMD user Linux Mint MATE 15 has been really good to me for gaming
You sure didn't install correctly the drivers, I got 100/150 FPS on my Mobility 5650, try to follow this guide: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Raring_Installation_Guide

And don't forget to aticonfig --initial -f after installation. Good luck m8, Ati drivers are quite painfull to work with on linux
Killing Floor works perfect with my HD4330 w/ radeon driver and Core 2 Duo processor, TF2 needs Catalyst on this laptop, being playable between 20-30fps. With Radeon TF2 works at 15-20 fps, still playable...
