Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

How important is Linux to Valve?
I've been using Steam for Linux ever since it was released, and while I enjoy TF2 and Half-Life, I wish I could play even more games that windows users have. I'd really like to play games like Arma, but I know that it's up to developers to port there games to Linux. As for Valve though, where is Half Life 2 and Left for Dead 2? And what about Garry's Mod? I'm no developer, but it seems like if TF2 is already on Linux, porting over other Source games wouldn't be too complicated. What I want to know is, how important is Linux to Valve, and how much work is done to port over Valve games? All in all though, great job so far and keep up the good work.

HL2 and the episodes, almost all the GoldSrc games (only deleted scenes isn't there) and L4D2 are available as beta, that's why they don't show on the store yet. Garry's Mod is the same way, although Valve dosen't make that game

They've been porting games fairly quickly, with a good amount of their catalog already on Linux. Once the current games get out of beta, I'd imagine we will start seeing the rest of their catalog coming

I think Dota 2, Portal 2 and CS:GO are the only Valve games we've yet to see ported.

Well, and the first Left 4 Dead, but they might just be planning to leave that out since nobody uses it anymore. Now that all the campaigns are in the second game, there's literally no reason it even needs to exist anymore.

Oh, and Alien Swarm, but that never got a Mac port either so they might not care about it.

I hope to see them ported; the first two games are my favourite.

Valve is only porting their games to Linux because of two reasons:

a) Windows 8
b) Their console.

Otherwise they couldn't care less about Linux. Let's thank Microsoft for making an operating system based on a web page, and let's thank Linux for starting all this. And of course, hop onboard of this Valve's Linux train.
