Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

TF2 not showing up after launch.
When I launch tf2 it goes through validating steam files. Once done it goes to preparing to launch team fortress 2.

After awhile that disappears and nothing happens. I'm guessing it is something wrong with my video card/driver as I have seen that other people are having similar problems (which I have tried but did not work).

I'm using:
Ubuntu 12.10 (64-bit)
Nvidia Geforce: 210
Nvidia driver version: 304.51

Thanks for taking the time to read, let me know if you need additional information.

steam does not support drivers before 310 for as far as I know.
I updated to 310.14 and I'm still having problems.

For anyway wondering how to update to 310.14 these are what I followed:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valve#NVIDIA_Graphics

Any ideas why it's still not working?

can you run steam from the terminal and see what messaages appear when you launch TF2?
Here is what I get:

Its display driver problem, I saw you have the penguin, that means the game had launched and shut down ed right away.
Have you upgraded the driver yet?
and people are saying linux doesn't support 310 or earlier graphics

Didn't even see that I got the penguin, thanks for pointing that out.
That sucks that it doesn't support these graphics even though I followed the link for setting it up with valve: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valve#NVIDIA_Graphics which says to use the 310 driver.

first in a terninal try "export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib32:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" then type steam to see if that effects anything. Also type this to see if any graphic errors showed up relating to your card. " dmesg | grep "NVIDIA" "

I am running 310.19 so Linux has no problem with that.

The NVIDIA drivers from NVIDIA can be found here:
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/56283

The Ubuntu Ones you have installed should be working, it is strange
When I tried after doing the "export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib32:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" it didn't effect anything.

When I typed "dmesg | grep "NVIDIA"" it came up with,
nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel. NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 310.14 Tue Oct 9 11:52:41 PDT 2012
Thanks for taking the time to read these responses. As you can clearly see I am very new to this.

Also would installing the other driver help out?
If so, what would be the easiest way to install it?
I'm still getting this error after steam updates and tf2 update. I'm not surprised as it is most likely something wrong with my video card.
how do i run steam on terminal?
\
it just says preparing to launch and then it says game is unnavailable
