I was playing it on linux yesterday.
You need to extract the .gcf and place extracted files in the Half-Life folder in steamapps/common.
Then in terminal cd to that Half-Life folder and run tfc with this command:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=~/.steam/bin:. LD_PRELOAD=gameoverlayrenderer.so ./hl_linux -game tfc

Also works with DOD czero opforce etc though bshift doesnt seem to work or ricochet.

Use hllib via wine to extract the gcf file.
You might try just putting the gcf file into steamapps with the rest, it might work without extracting it? (I extracted before I thought to try it)

Don't worry, it will be available eventually. You can either extract the files yourself, as said earlier, or wait.

Maybe he likes both :) I like TF2, but I honestly find TFC to be more fun
