@TO: I could fix it in a 12.10 x64 installation by updating the fglrx- driver through a unofficial ppa which provides more up to date drivers. But I don't remember it :-).
Then I switched to 12.04 x64 because I thought: ok, 12.10 is not officially supported...
But even in 12.04 the same. But this time i don't want to mess around in my sources.
Edit: I removed my system info etc. because of the problematic implementation of spoiler tags in this forum and because now i think it would'nt help anyone.
I could fix the errors by using the newest drivers from amd(fglrx) either with i686 or AMD64. It seems that, unlike most people use their distribution, in this case you are perhaps expected to install your display drivers manually not using the official repos.
It looks like the errors happen due to extremely bad drivers. But Steam can hopefully be the reason for AMD, Nvidia and Intel to make them better.
