Steam for Linux

package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)
how do i fix this? i try to install it and it says

dpkg: error processing steam.deb (--install):
package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)

Shouldn't it be "steam_latest.deb"? Did you download it from this site or from another?
from steam site, where they linked it on the main steampowered.com website.

apt-get install -f steam.deb

Did you try to install ia32-libs?
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
new problem now, its not connecting to the internet, it did the first time, but then its sporadic on connecting, its not my internet, and i can use Firefox and other programs, any help would be great. thank you.

You're a boss man. I was trying to install arp-sk but had the same i386/amd64 issue and I see the only answer on a steam forum oO .
