First hit I got was (Ubuntu 10.04 however):
http://askubuntu.com/questions/93202/how-do-i-check-fglrxs-version
AFAICT there's no mention of beta in the driver itself? I could be wrong though.
The run file that you (or the distro maintainer) gets from amd's site has a variable called label inside but for both beta 8 and beta 11 it says label="AMD Catalyst(TM) Proprietary Driver-9.01.8" which makes me wonder if the 8 referred to beta 8 and they forgot to update it for 11?
An earlier beta just had label="AMD Catalyst(TM) Proprietary Driver-9.01" so perhaps that is significant.
If you look in amdcccle under the information tab for the driver packaging version, you should see a long version number starting 9. mine (beta 11) is something like
Driver packaging version 9.01.8-121115a-149744E-ATI
Presumably that will differ between each beta so if you post yours someone might identify it.
Again, I think perhaps the .8 should be .11 if they'd been consistent but I assume the string will differ between each beta regardless.
Replace "UNSIGNED" with:
*Reboot*
Instructions type stuff:
sudo apt-get install mesa-utils
glxinfo | grep OpenGL
