SS3 still slow in Radeon Cards (Public Beta Update)

Hey guys,

I'm tried to play SS3 today and it is terribly slow (< 10 FPS, even in intro). I've a Radeon 5850; is not the latest hardware, but I was expecting something better. I tried to use Gnome Classic and update to latest Public Beta Update, but nothing helped.

It should be much better. Go to options/performance and set CPU to lowest, GPU to high and VRAM to lowest and try again. Use your native resolution (1080p I guess) and restart the game after changing these settings. If you're using a window manager with 3D acceleration, turn it to 2D mode temporarily.

If you happened to use the ultra setting for your GPU, then there's your problem. The current Catalyst linux driver can't handle AA with playable performance. Setting it to high will solve your problem.

Recently released fglrx 12.11beta11(03/12/2012) seems to have fixed some of the performance regressions. There are still some issues, blinking textures(vegetation) are back.
fglrx12.11beta that was required to play TF2 made SS3 unplayable.

The best experience yet was on the latest stable fglrx. Good performance and no rendering glitches.

Hopefully this driver hell will be over in a couple of mounths. Makes me wonder if what really killed UT3 on linux was the driver situation.

You can try:

• Disabling VSync if you're using it.
  
• Enabling performance mode CPU frequency scaling governor (or slightly better, disabling Cool'N'Quiet/Speedstep/Powernow in your BIOS to disable power-saving features of CPU).
  
• Enabling Undirected Full-Screen in CompizConfig Settings Manager (under General->Compositing) if using Unity.

Also SS3 uses just only one processor core, the others stay idle :(
